Positive Aspects: Cinematography and Editing: The cinematography and editing complement each other. The cinematography has consistent shots with those beautiful and perfectly fitting ratios where they stand, especially with over-shoulder and medium close up shots and dialogue scenes. I found cinematographic shots just amazing, and personally don't see any flaws. It captures its perfect angles. The editing complements this well and ensures a smooth flow that kept me engaged. Writing and Character Development: The screenplay and the character development of the actors is a standout, offering deep and empathetic character arcs, especially that of Eliot. His struggles and growth of wishing for love are relatable and well-conceived. Overall, the script delivers a compelling take on the love of attraction and wish-fulfillment theme, which achieves a rare depth for a comedy. Film Review #57 - Nedelja (2024)

Image
First Impression: "Nedelja" is an interesting take on the exploration of Dzej Ramadanovski's life and the Serbian folk music scene, providing insight into the cultural background of the music. Directed by Nemanja Ceranic and Milos Radunovic, the film is notable for its music, production design, and visual style, although it does have a few minor drawbacks. The Positives: Music and Sound Design: The music scenes were very varied and caught my attention immediately. The film's music fits perfectly within its narrative, underscoring emotional beats and heightening the drama where necessary. This, combined with the musical score, creates an evident tension that might resonate with the audience. The sound design complements this by masterfully balancing quiet moments with louder, more intense sequences.  Production Design: Despite some viewers potentially finding the depiction of poverty and rough living conditions unsettling, the film's commitment to authenticity is

Film Review #56 - Madame Web (2024)

Image
First Impression: The opening of the Madame Web was immersed in a mystique and ambition, enhanced by great musical score; yet, as the movie progresses, it becomes a mixed bag and a rollercoaster of emotions. The Positive: Musical Score and Sound Design: The standout feature of "Madame Web" is its musical score. The soundtrack not only enhances the emotional depth of the film but also succeeds in creating in some moments genuine goosebumps. The sound design really enhances this impact by carefully using sound pans, bass, and reverse effects. It creates a sense of tension and immersion which is one of the film's strongest features. The Mixed: Visual Effects and Costume Design: Some of the visual effects in "Madame Web" were visually appealing. The costume design, like Casey's red jacket and the three spider girl villain outfits standing out as particularly stunning contributions to the film's aesthetic, but it was not often shown in the film since the film

Film Review #55 - Society of The Snow (2023)

Image
The Positive From the outset, the cinematography of the film captured my attention, marked by its exceptional quality and mysterious narration. The camera work, particularly the use of medium-closeup and full landscape shots, is noteworthy, reminiscent of James Friend's cinematography style in "All Quiet on the Western Front (2022)." The film's adept use of various camera lenses, especially in super close-up shots, further elevates its visual storytelling, while the editing and sound design intricately weave tension into each scene.  The muffled sounds and precise audio cues enhance the immersive experience, with the sound design shining brightly during the airplane scene, incorporating elements like the Shepard tone and horror SFX. The costume and production design perfectly match the film's aesthetic, enhancing the unfolding events. The film's stunning visuals are particularly striking in the winter and mountain shots. The cinematographer's talent is e

Film Review #54 - Argyle (2024)

Image
The First Impression: The film kicks off on a confusing note, leaving me scratching my head. Yet, as we dive deeper, the cinematography shines through. The transition from medium shots to drone footage, paired with the protagonist's POV shots, actor’s medium-long shots, offers a captivating glimpse into her world.  The Positive: Right off the bat, the funky music in "Argyle" caught my attention. The musical soundtrack, with its ability to build tension at times, stands out as the film's strongest feature. It has this vibe that just hooks you in. The soundtrack fits well with the film's overall vibe, although it doesn't introduce any innovative elements. Moreover, The editing is sharp and on point, and the sound design is well-mixed. The Negative: When it comes to the narrative and visual storytelling, "Argyle" hits a rough patch. The potential is there, but the execution feels super average, hampered further by some notably faulty acting. At times, t

Film Review #53 - Trolls Band Together (2023)

Image
The music in the introduction was captivating and set a positive tone for the movie. It truly enhanced the viewing experience, making it the highlight of the film. The cinematic score was well-made so that it matches the vibrant animation and enhances the overall positive atmosphere. The choreography by music band Brozone was impressive and enjoyable to watch. The animation is vibrant and colorful, with captivating locations. The unique adaptation of physics, such as depicting fire and water differently, adds an interesting twist. I like how the sound effects were used to enhance the immersion in the film's world. The active camera work, including close up and over shoulder shots, adds depth to the visuals. The characters, including trolls and muppets, are cute and distinct, each with their own unique characteristics. However, the writing was the worst part of the film. The plot was lacking in depth, revolving solely around a mission to save a friend, which during the film I found

Film Review #52 - All Quiet on the Western Front (2022)

Image
Music and Sound Design: The music in the film has a strong blockbuster feel to it, with a lot of tension and a repetitive style that reminds me of the score in Dunkirk (2017). The film's excellence in sound is clearly evident, which is why it deservedly won an Oscar for Best Original Score in 2023. The sound design in this film is incredibly detailed, which helps to fully immerse the viewer in the experiences of the characters. The way high frequencies are cut off in certain scenes is executed masterfully, which adds to the overall richness of the film experience.  Cinematography and Visual Storytelling: The cinematography in 'All Quiet on the Western Front' is remarkable. The use of long, uninterrupted shots adds depth to the narrative, while the incorporation of mount shots enhances the visual storytelling, similar to techniques used in Dunkirk (2017). The film’s color grading and the use of different lenses for landscape - wide lenses and regular scenes - normal lenses.

Film Review #51 - Girl You Know It's True

Girl You Know It's True (2023) is a biopic film about Milli Vanilli by Simon Verhoeven. The storytelling style is robust, unfolding in a chronological sequence that keeps a captivating pace all over the film. The film's portrayal of the 1980s era is clearly well-crafted. The costumes and set design perfectly embody the era and greatly enhance the film's authenticity. The music creates a lively and nostalgic atmosphere with its funky, disco, and synthwave vibes, reminiscent of the 80s, enhancing the overall experience of the movie. Moreover, dancing performances and sequences by actors who performed as Milli Vanilli were immaculate and perfect. A memorable moment in the film is when a character transforms a real-life situation into the catchy song "Baby Don't Forget My Number." The cinematography is impressive in its visual impact. The shots in the video vary, including worm's-eye views, overhead perspectives, and full and medium shots. Using super close-up
