Film Review #003 - Dumb Money (2023)
One and a half months ago, I had the opportunity to watch at that time an unreleased movie at Forum Cinemas in Riga, called DumbMoney directed by Craig Gillespie . The movie hasn't been released in Latvia or anywhere else yet, because it was a Secret Premiere in Forum Cinemas. The movie is centered around the GameStop stock controversy, a true story from the 2020-2021 period in the US. The script is brilliantly crafted, weaving humor and wit seamlessly throughout the narrative. While the movie is peppered with an abundance of jokes, it does lean heavily on cuss words, which might not sit well with everyone. However, this edginess makes for the film's authentic portrayal of its Gen Z-centric theme. The choice of music in the movie evoked mixed feelings for me. On one hand, it seemed to fit well with the film's themes and scenes, enhancing the overall experience.
